Staying healthy and active can be hard… the world being on complete lockdown doesn’t make it any easier! I have always been pretty active and healthy- but during quarantine I found myself spending wayyy too much time on the couch. I eventually got tired of it, and decided to to get myself healthy again. Usually, I would go to the gym and to the track at FHS, but I was stuck at home. So I had to get a little bit more creative. Even though most places are opening back up, if you are continuing to choose to stay home or you or a loved one are in a higher-risk category, here are top 3 ways I found to get active and stay healthy at home!

First, I found that going on walks in my neighborhood was very refreshing. I never used to go on walks- before quarantine I thought that they were a waste of time and did not do anything to improve you mentally or physically. Boy, was I wrong! I now go on walks around my neighborhood whenever I have a spare hour or two. Throw in a few minutes of jogging, and you have a whole workout! If you are up for more of a challenge, go for a run!

Second, I found free exercise programs on YouTube to follow along with. YouTube has an incredible number of resources for fitness at home. Just search any type of exercise, and you’ll find one that appeals to you! I have done a lot of programs, and my favorite so far is Chloe Ting.

Third, eating healthy plays the biggest role in your overall health. In a pandemic, the first instinct is to grab the canned, boxed, and frozen goods so that the trips to the store can be less frequent. Soup, pasta, and rice are usually gone first. But there are so many healthy options! Instead of reaching for the canned soup, reach for the canned green beans! Instead of reaching for the frozen pizza, reach for the frozen fruits and vegetables! Instead of reaching for the chips, reach for the dried fruit! Even the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

I know how hard it can be to focus on yourself and stay active and healthy during this hard time. But I PROMISE that it will make you feel better physically and mentally! Good luck!
