Plans are in full swing as Heritage School opened its doors on August 19 for our traditional, stimulating in-person classroom experience.

With in-put from teachers, parents, board members, and doctors, we developed the Heritage Health & Safety Plan for COVID-19 protocols which are consistent with CDC guidelines and guidance from Texas Health and Human Resources as well as interaction with the best practices of other schools and health groups. Given the unpredictable path of the COVID-19 virus, scrupulous creative planning has been and will be in place to provide the safest environment for our students, staff, and families. With our open hallway and many outdoor areas, we are making good use of our 39 acres. We have added picnic tables for more outdoor classroom opportunities. Students in K-5th grade do not wear face masks; grades 6-12 are required to wear face masks or face shields when indoors and to maintain physical distance when outdoors without masks. Teachers and staff wear face masks or face shields. Hand washing, hand sanitizing, limited numbers in the restrooms, frequent and thorough wiping down of desks and commonly touched surfaces and frequent daily cleaning are practiced. Generally, non-essential personnel are asked not to enter the buildings.

We are still developing some of the specific protocols for our sports events, but practices are underway with athletes following CDC and TAPPS guidelines. We are all so happy to be back in school!
